LOS ANGELES -- Much-maligned receiver Markeith Ambles has withdrawn from school at the University of Southern California and is no longer a member of the Trojans, coach Lane Kiffin said Tuesday.

Ambles, a sophomore, was ruled academically ineligible for the 2011 season last week. He had been involved in a number of off-the-field issues since enrolling at the school in the summer of 2010, including an indefinite suspension in October and a temporary departure from the team in November.

Kiffin said he had met with Ambles in recent days to discuss his options but declined to discuss other specifics of the decision.

"We wish him the best of luck," Kiffin said. "We're moving forward and hopefully he does good things."

Ambles was a four-star recruit out of suburban Atlanta who first committed to the University of Tennessee under Kiffin in 2009 before switching to USC when Kiffin came to the school.

Ambles had one catch for 3 yards in 2010, his only reception as a Trojan.
