Robert Woods has ankle surgery

LOS ANGELES -- USC Trojans receiver Robert Woods underwent arthroscopic surgery on his injured right ankle Monday, a school spokesperson confirmed.

Woods, who will be a junior next year, originally hurt the ankle playing pick-up basketball in April. Along with nagging shoulder and elbow injuries, it bothered him for much of the 2011 season, even as he broke school and conference records for receiving yards and challenged for the Biletnikoff Trophy.

He ended the year with personal bests of 111 catches, 1,292 yards and 15 touchdowns and was voted an Associated Press All-American as well as an ESPN.com All-American.

Woods was also one of three Biletnikoff finalists, losing out to Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon for the award.

Typical recovery times for such surgeries are 4-6 weeks, putting Woods on pace to comfortably return for spring practice in March.
