Los Angeles Kings forward Brad Richardson is out indefinitely after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, the Kings announced following practice Tuesday.

Richardson was in the lineup the last five games after Jeff Carter went down with a deep bone bruise in his ankle. Prior to that, he was a healthy scratch in 14 of the previous 16 games. Carter is expected to return for Game 1 on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks.

To fill his spot on the roster, the Kings called up rookie Andrei Loktionov from the organization's AHL affiliate in Manchester. Loktionov played 39 games for the Kings earlier this season, producing three goals and four assists.

Loktionov will meet the team in Vancouver. The rest of the team is expected to depart L.A. this afternoon.
