American football safety for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Langford was born to Ricky and Delphine Langford and attended Tanner High School in Tanner, Alabama. Langford lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track and field. In football, he was a three-year starter at running back and safety. After his senior season, he was named a 2A First Team All-State defensive back and All-Region. In basketball, he was a two-time All-Region pick as a forward and center. In track, he placed in four events as a junior.

Langford has BS degree in sociology and played college football at Vanderbilt University from 20042008. He started all four years for the Commodores as a safety. He made 247 career tackles and eleven interceptions. During his senior season, he was named team captain, and twice earned the team's most valuable defensive back award. He was named to the All-SEC freshman team in 2005. Off the field, education and community service are his mainstays. Langford serve as role model, dedicated to helping vulnerable young people transform, encourage and support students continue their education. When his football days are over, Langford says he is interested in a career in acting or broadcasting.

Law Facts By Toni J. Jaramilla, A Professional Law Corporation : When may an employee be entitled to medical leave from work? An employee who is injured or ill may not be limited to sick leave, vacation, or personal leave if he or she needs time off. There are many other types of leave that an employer may be required to provide. For example, if the employee has a newborn or newly adopted child, or the employee or his or her family member has a serious health condition, the employee may be entitled to up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave per year under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). A serious health condition is an illness or injury requiring inpatient medical treatment or continuing outpatient treatment by a health care provider, or a chronic medical condition. Furthermore, many states have enacted their own family and medical leave statutes, some of which require employers to provide additional leave or paid leave. Medical leave may also be an appropriate accommodation of a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA does not specify whether or what type of leave must be given to an employee who is disabled by an illness or injury, but courts have held that an employer may be required to provide leave beyond sick leave or personal leave if such leave would be a reasonable accommodation of a disability, as long as the leave is not unduly burdensome to an employer. A leave of one month might be unduly burdensome to a small employer who cannot hire a temporary worker to replace the disabled employee, but a leave of six months might not be unduly burdensome to a large employer who can hire a temporary replacement or reapportion duties. If the employer has allowed other employees to take long leaves for reasons that are not disability-related, such as sabbaticals for continuing education, a court may find that the employer is required to allow a disabled employee to take a similar leave. AIR DATE AUGUST 14, 2011- John Greenburg, The Grand Old Man: Amos Alonzo Stagg: Book Description-Amos Alonzo Stagg rose from humble beginnings to become the most significant coach in history. He lived to be 102, coached until he was 98 and spent 73 seasons in football. He introduced a plethora of innovations. The biggest names in football said, "All football comes from Stagg." He was on the very first All-American team. He was also one of the first men inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, and the only member of the charter class elected as both a player and a coach. In addition, he was one of the founding fathers of the American Football Coaches Association, the football rules committee, the Big Ten Conference, the game of basketball and America's Olympic movement. Beyond all of his achievements in the realm of athletics, Stagg is highly-regarded because he lived an exemplary life. For all his life, he fought against the evils of substance abuse and for the empowerment of women. His relationship with his wife Stella was one of the great love stories of all time. He is the standard by which all coaches, teachers, fathers and leaders should be judged: A role model for everyone. John Greenburg has had numerous accomplishments in his career with numerous titles to his credit. He is a spokesperson and writer of non-fiction about larger-than-life people. He has worked for collection agencies and used car dealerships. He started writing because of his interest in the sport of football. He has spent a number of years doing historical research on football in the archives of Northwestern University, the University of the Notre Dame, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Chicago and the University of the Pacific. He has served as historian for the All-American Football Foundation and has written several articles for the College Football Historical Society newsletter. John has had the honor of speaking several times at the College Football Hall of Fame and at football reunions for South Bend, Indiana's Washington High School. Santa Ana Police Officer Amadu Kabia:Amadu Kabia was born in New Jersey on June 20th, 1980. He and his younger brother, Ngari, were raised in the Bronx by their single mother, Felicita "Wanji" Gachukia. Ever the athlete, Amadu studied karate, played basketball, and grew up and avid Yankees, Knicks and NY Giants fan. After graduating from Syracuse University, Amadu moved to California to pursue a love interest and a Career. He became a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness in Brea, CA and decided to act on his desire to give back to his community; Amadu chose to become a police officer. Amadu joined the Santa Ana Police Department and went through rigorous training at the Orange County Sherriff's Academy with Class #182. Officer Amadu Kabia #3154 was the epitome of health and fitness. He was a member of the 2009 Santa Ana PD Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay Team and participated in CrossFit to maintain his fitness. While training for the 2010 Baker to Vegas Race, Amadu was diagnosed with Stage III Liver Cancer. During his journey, Amadu refused to stay at home. He continued working at the Police Station until the liver cancer quickly accelerated to Stave IV. In April 2010, Amadu's mother left her waitress job in Harlem, NY to care for Amadu full-time here in Anaheim, CA. Various fundraisers were held to supplement Ms. Gachukia's lost wages during her time here in California.

On Saturday, July 10th, 2010, the first Fitness Challenge fundraiser was held at the Orange County Sherriff's Academy in Tustin, CA. Five days later, on Thursday, July 15th, 2010, we lost Amadu. Amadu was flown home to New York with his family and SAPD brothers at his side. He was laid to rest in the Bronx where he grew up and where Ms. Gachukia still lives.Amadu Kabia was a well-represented officer. He was known for his exceptionally bright smile, great attitude, teamwork mindset, and dedication to lifetime fitness. He is survived by his mother, Wanji Gachukia, his brother Ngari Kabia, family in Kenya, Africa, and his brothers and sisters at the Santa Ana Police Department. He is and will forever be missed. The summer run/walk will have professional timing, a post-event awards party with refreshments, lots of giveaways, entertainment, special guest appearances and lots of fun for the whole family. There will be awards for the first and second overall place winners, with a post-race awards party hosted by Cantina Real, the popular Hermosa Beach Mexican restaurant located at 19 Pier Avenue. All registered participants will receive a goodie bag and t-shirt. Joe's affection for the South Bay community is evident with his passionate consistency to give back to local organizations. As a result, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1330 and the El Segundo School district. Joe's goal is to get as many local organizations involved.

Sgt. Major Jesse Acosta, US Army Retired, has a rich and storied history of service to this nation. A Southern California native, Acosta actively served in the military from 1975 to 2010 and is the recipient of numerous awards for his valor, not the least of which include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the Presidential Certificate of Appreciation.

Deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005, Sgt. Major was assigned to LSA Anaconda Base in Bilad, Iraq, a place of persistent enemy attack. Sixteen days after being promoted to his current rank in 2006, Acosta was hit by enemy fire. A mortar cost him his eyesight and other significant sensory deprivations. It is said that, while severely wounded, he was still giving orders and caring for the warriors with whom he was serving, thinking first of them. Rehabilitation efforts ensued. Acosta's tenacity and courage carried him through the darkest of days. Though he still faces challenges, he has since gone on to serve as a motivational speaker, an advocate for the disabledmost especially disabled warriorsand successfully championed legislation for the blind. October 2010 found him at the White House with the President for the signing of HR 3101.

Today, Sgt. Major is a fervent advocate for wounded warriors and the many challenges they face and resides in the LA area. He has committed his life in service to other Vets. He knows their challenges well.

Sgt Erick Castro Enlisted in the Army at the age of 19. He was shipped to Fort Lenard Wood to do basic training and advance individual training (AIT). In 2003 he was deployed to Iraq. While in Iraq he was conduction, raid on key targets, foot patrols, undercover mission, traffic control points, guard on high value areas and other duties. After 6 months into his deployment he was involved in an ambush. His team was hit with a light anti-tank weapon that took his leg right off at the hip. From Iraq he was flow out to Walter Reed Medical Center. A week after getting to Walter Reed, President Bush presented Erick with the Purple Heart. A month later the late Senator Kennedy approached him to do his citizenship. Erick was naturalized as an American Citizen at Capitol Hill.

In May of 2004, Erick was medically retired from the Army and was able to keep his rank of Sergeant. By the fall he went back to school to get his degree. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Math degree. By 2009 he moved back to Southern California to work for a small telecommunications company. Now, Erick is working on his MBA and starting a new company to help other Veterans.

Awards- Purple Heart, (3) Army Commendation Medals w/ V device, (3) Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, VA-DAV Freedom Award 2004. In 2005, Erick was honored at the Memorial Day Concert in Capitol Hill which was aired by PBS. In 2010 Erick was featured in "Latinos Living the American Dream" sponsored by Pepsi Co. and directed by Eva Longoria.

In January, Gayle M. Montgomery was recruited to serve on the Board of Directors of Thank A Vet, a nonprofit that combines a number of her passions (helping others to find jobs, philanthropy, and giving back to our Vets). She brings to this organization the business acumen she has acquired in her multi-decade career with two local utilities, and the philanthropic background she acquired over time, which, in addition to hands-on efforts, includes coursework in development at UCLA, involvement with a volume of philanthropic organizations online, and her experience in working for the Los Angeles Philharmonic where she raised funds to bring music to the lives of Southern California school age children. She holds an Associate of Arts in Language and an Associate of Science in Business, both from Citrus College and lives in the San Gabriel Valley.

AIR DATE May 8, 2011- Tracie Kimbrough, Making Strides Against Cancer:Tracie speaks with LaFern Cusack about being a cancer survivor and the 2011 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer San Fernando Valley Saturday, June 11th. Tracie's two aunts and their maternal grandmother battled the disease and one aunt had passed. When Tracie was diagnosed with in situ breast cancer (cancer that has not spread to surrounding tissue) in 2007 her mother was with her when she went under for surgeries. "How she did it I'm not sure," Tracie said. "Watching my mom, who's the strongest woman I know, go through this was unbelievable. She had to face watching both her daughters face cancer after losing a sister to breast cancer." Following a double mastectomy Tracie underwent breast reconstruction but as the mother of an adult daughter, Tracie's first reaction to her own diagnosis was "Oh, no, not my daughter. If it needs to be me then let it be me, but not my daughter," she said. "I've been a mother since I was 19. I really don't know how to be anything but a mom." Because she is at elevated risk for breast cancer, Tracie's daughter Alyceia, now 28, began having regular mammograms at a younger age than the American Cancer Society's recommended age 40, and does regular breast self-examinations. Having witnessed Tracie's determination and positive attitude the reconstructive surgeon's nurse suggested she volunteer for the American Cancer Society's Reach To Recovery program, a free peer visitation program for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. After realizing many people didn't have the support system she trained for the program. Peter is also the Founder and Executive Director of Prime Time Sports Camp, one of the largest privately owned sports and recreation programs for youth in Los Angeles. Peter is a graduate of UCLA, and is on the Board of Directors of the Isadore and Sadie Dorin Foundation, and a member of the Westcoast Sports Associates Advisory Board. Mike Linn Mike is in the third year of his second tenure as UCLA's Head Athletic Performance Coach. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist as well as a Level One weightlifting coach. A national speaker in his field, he is also a published author in the field of human performance. In addition to working directly with the football team, he oversees all operations in UCLA's 15,000 square foot weight room. Mike rejoined the Bruin program in February of 2007 after serving as the Vice President of Performance for Velocity Sports Performance. While at Velocity Sports Performance, he worked to develop training programs for its 63 franchise locations and over 20,000 athletes nationwide. Among the many highlights of Sgt. Major Acosta's service is his role in getting HR3101 passed before Congress and being there for the signing last fall with the President. You will see from Sgt. Castro's bio that he was profiled in a film done in collaboration with Eva Longoria called Latino's Living the Dream. In January, Gayle Montgomery was recruited to serve on the Board of Directors of Thank A Vet, a nonprofit that combines a number of her passions (helping others to find jobs, philanthropy, and giving back to our Vets). Sgt Maj Jesse R. Acosta, born in East Los Angeles and raised in Santa Fe Springs he comes from humble beginnings. In December of 1975 at the age of 18 Acosta enlisted into the US Army. Soon after he graduated Basic Training and Infantry school (11B). In May of 1976, Acosta was attached to 2/39th Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis Washington. On January 16, 2006 SGM Acosta was wounded in a mortar attack on LSA Anaconda. The most severe of his injuries is the loss of his eyes. Among some of SGM Acosta's awards are the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, (6) Army Commendation Medals, (3) Army Achievement Medals, (3) Army Good Conduct Medals, (6) Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, (2) National Defense Service Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Sgt Erick Castro enlisted in the Army at the age of 19. He was shipped to Fort Lenard Wood to do basic training and advance individual training (AIT). During this time at AIT he was taught how to operate heavy construction equipment, renovate structures, create tank obstacles, construction management and how to use explosives. In 2003 he was deployed to Iraq. While in Iraq he was conduction, raid on key targets, foot patrols, undercover mission, traffic control points, guard on high value areas and other duties. After 6 months into his deployment he was involved in an ambush. His team was hit with a light anti-tank weapon that took his leg right off at the hip. From Iraq he was flow out to Walter Reed Medical Center. A week after getting to Walter Reed, President Bush presented Erick with the Purple Heart. A month later the late Senator Kennedy approached him to do his citizenship. Erick was naturalized as an American Citizen at Capitol Hill. John Zeretzke has written numerous World Music ballet, dance and theater scores for such companies as The Royal Danish Ballet, The Ohio Ballet, The Ice Theater of New York; also, Shakespeare's The Tempest, As You Like It and King Lear for Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Zeretzke's score for The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago was featured in Robert Altman's docu-drama "The Company". The Chicago Times called it, "an instant classic!" In 1998 Zeretzke was awarded the Lester Horton Dance Award for outstanding achievement in music for dance in Los Angeles, California. He won first place in the 2000 Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur International Composing Competition for Dance in Quebec, Canada. John was Music Director and soloist with the prestigious Aman Folk Ensemble in Los Angeles for over thirteen years. Most recently, John has composed original scores for theater including music to John Cariani's box office hit Almost, Maine, Shakespeare's The Tempest and As You Like It and a new score to Heather Ruffo's 9 Parts Of Desire, the true stories of nine Iraqi women. Zeretzke has composed numerous scores for films including over eight motion pictures for Paramount Pictures, Disney, Discovery Channel and Kushner-Locke Productions. Zeretzke continues to be a leading Artist/Educator in schools nationally and throughout Southern California. In 1999 he won the P.A.S.A. Award, Professional Artist Service Award, a lifetime achievement award for his work in arts education in the state of California. He is associated with numerous leadership and educational organizations in the state including the Music Center of Los Angeles County, Orange County Performing Arts Center, The California Arts Project and Literature Projects, Smart Schools  West Coast and The California Leadership Academy. He was raised in a working-class white household by his mother and adoptive stepfather, and upon finding his father he discovered he is African-American. Chivas USA joined nationally recognized health expert Dr. Aliza Lifshitz to strongly urge all local Hispanic families to vaccinate adolescent children against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases, such as meningococcal meningitis and whooping cough. Trujillo and Dr. Aliza headlined a special event in Los Angeles as part of the Vacune a Sus Hijos Adolescentes (Get Your Teens Vaccinated) public awareness initiative. GARY HOUSTON was a Chicago Sun-Times features editor and writer who increasingly became lured by work on stage and screen. He worked with LaFern Cusack in the play "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," produced by Chicago 's Goodman Theater, and he was last onstage as an Alfred Hitchcock-like character in the thriller "Panic" at Peninsula Players in Door County , Wisconsin . Filmgoers may recognize him from " Fargo " as the irate car customer complaining to William H. Macy about the rust-proofing he hadn't agreed to pay for. LaFern Cusack speaks PARKOUR with David Thompson, Jonathan Velasquez and Alex Borblikov and how they used the art to save lives. The World Freerunning & Parkour Federation is dedicated to the safe and respectful advancement of the Parkour Movement throughout the world. Inspired by the creativity and mental discipline embodied by Parkour, the athlete/founders of the WFPF and their partners will faithfully bring this philosophy of movement to the growing numbers of optimistic young people around the globe who believe that through camaraderie, self-expression, and service to others, there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome. David Thompson is Co-founder, WFPF executive producer MTV's Ultimate Parkour Challenge. The WFPF was founded by Victor Bevine and David Thompson in collaboration with Francis Lyons and Bob Kusbit of One Louder Productions. All serve as Executive Producers on the series as well as Amy Emmerich from MTV and Kemp Curly, series show director, of Transition Productions. Alex Borblikov left Russia for Seattle where he only knew a couple words "I'm Alex. I Parkour." Jonathan Velasquez found himself doing the wrong things in the wrong crowd.
