Jeff Fisher played on Buddy Ryan's legendary 1985 Bears defense (and basically served as an assistant after he was hurt). Fisher began his coaching career under Ryan in Philadelphia. Later, Ryan moved from Oilers coordinator to Cardinals head coach in 1994, the same year Fisher landed in Houston as coordinator. Fisher became interim coach later that year when Jack Pardee was fired. I started covering the team in 1996 and remember players talking about it taking a good while to get beyond the offense-defense split Pardee allowed and Ryan really fueled.
