Yasiel Puig (thumb) day-to-day

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig sat out of Sunday's 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants with a strained left thumb ligament that was initially injured when he slid headfirst into first base on Saturday.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after Sunday's game that he thought Puig's injury would be more of a "day-to-day thing" rather than something that would require a trip to the disabled list.
