Mark McGwire weighing Dodgers job

LOS ANGELES -- Mark McGwire has informed the St. Louis Cardinals that he intends to leave his position as the team's hitting coach to take a similar job with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

McGwire, who broke baseball's single-season home run record in 1998 and later admitted to using steroids, lives in Orange County, about 40 miles south of Dodger Stadium.

McGwire has been the Cardinals' hitting coach the past three seasons.
