Josh Beckett opts for surgery

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers right-hander Josh Beckett will undergo season-ending surgery, the team announced Saturday.

After consulting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Greg Pearl, the Dodgers decided Beckett would undergo a surgery to relieve pressure on the nerve in his neck area, commonly known as thoracic outlet syndrome. Pearl will perform the surgery in Dallas the week of July 8.
