Dodgers sign Edinson Volquez

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers signed pitcher Edinson Volquez on Friday and said they plan to use the veteran right-hander as a reliever initially.

Volquez, who hasn't pitched in relief in six years, also likely will make some starts in the final month to give the Dodgers' rotation extra rest.
