Ride the lightning

At halftime, their team down by 20, the Florida dancers broke down the game.

"I think they're just frustrated," said one, blinking at a bathroom mirror. "Once Coach gets them in the locker room, I think they'll be fine. I've seen pull off some major things, I'm not worried."

"Maybe they're starving, like me!" offered the other.

"We gotta get them some food," came the reply.

The Gators needed a lot more than food. From opening tip, with its band playing that Gloria Gaynor anthem, Temple was in survivor mode -- kill or be killed.

The play-by-play sheet looked like a typing exercise:

Made 3-pointer by Wadley.

Made 3-pointer by Wadley.

Made 3-pointer by Wadley.

Made 3-pointer by Wadley.

Final score: 75-54.

Outside the press conference room, Billy Donovan was swallowed up by concentric circles of men on deadline. His year having been marked by a tragedy far worse than a second-round exit, Donovan was completely matter-of-fact in detailing the reasons his team faltered.

Matt Bonner tossed up ill-advised threes.

Udonis Haslem wasn't as aggressive in the paint as he should have been.

Teddy Dupay and Brett Nelson struggled on D.

Billyball couldn't stop Temple. Upper respiratory infections couldn't stop Temple.

And neither could a bolt of lightning.
