Gonzaga's Germayne Forbes is the self-proclaimed best point guard from Great Britain, despite playing only one minute in the Zags 85-68 win over Indiana State. He also had a minicam, so I allowed him to be my guide through the ecstatic Zags locker room. It was the least I could do, apparently, after he saved my life.
Forbes: "You jumped on the Zags bandwagon yet, ESPN?
Me: "Well, you guys did play well."
Forbes: "Damn, we just saved your life. The Zags just saved your life!"
Forward Anthony Reason: "Another life saved!"
Someone then offered "God save the Queen, eh, Germayne?"
Forbes: "That's for damn sure!"
Next victim was Alex Hernandez, who scored 12 points off the bench and was resplendent in a "Cinderella My Ass" t-shirt. Forbes conducted this one, mainly using the word "Sweet" a bunch. Since Hernandez wasn't able to get a word in edgewise, I moved on.
Next, we ran into Blake Stepp, a freshman guard who is a dead ringer for Memphis' most famous (supposedly) deceased entertainer. Interestingly, he had not been stopped a single time while touring Memphis and asked if he was The King, but he did turn down a free trip to Graceland. He did concede that had he slicked his hair back, "my trip to Beale Street last night may have been more interesting."
Forbes apparently tired of me questioning Stepp in this fashion, and retorted into the camera, "don't you ever get tired of looking like Tom Green?"
No further questions.
[It is the editors' duty at this point to inform the audience that the writer does bear an uncanny resemblance to the Canadian comedian. Good call, Germayne.]
But before finally turning off the camera, Forbes turned it directly on me and said, "Tom, we just made you famous."
Sorry, Germayne, I think it's the other way around.
