Your weekly Boot Room Big Gulp will be going up in its usual Thursday slot, but there's so much going on today, we had to give you a little tease. Heaps and Bounds First things first: Later this afternoon, the Miami Fusion and New England Revolution will complete a trade, with the Fusion sending disgruntled right winger Jay Heaps and a second-round pick in the 2003 SuperDraft to the Revs for Brian Dunseth and a first-round pick in 2003. Heaps, who pitched a fit when he was not in the starting lineup for the Fusion's match with L.A. last weekend, will be heading to his home state of Massachusetts, where he will contend for a starting spot. He should also blend in well with a New England side that stresses energy and athleticism, Heaps' strong suits. Dunseth, a 2000 Olympian, has never found a rhythm in the Revs defense, but goes to a Miami team that believes he can give some depth in central defense -- which could be needed when Carlos Llamosa and Pabol Mastroeni get called in for national team games. Swap Meet And now the big scuttlebutt. There is a chance that in the next 24 hours, a blockbuster trade could come down between the Tampa Bay Mutiny and the Colorado Rapids. According to multipe sources, the Mutiny are close to sending all-time MLS assist leader Carlos Valderrama to the Rapids, along with midfielder Josh Keller and goalkeeper Scott Garlick, for defender Marcelo Balboa, goalkeeper Adin Brown, and defender Scott Vermillion and a first-round draft pick. Essentially, new Rapids coach Tim Hankinson would be acquiring the central midfield tandem, Valderrama and Keller, he used to garner 51 points in Tampa last season. The Mutiny, according to a source, have reached the conclusion that Valderrama's ego has become too big to handle, especially on a team that, barring a miraculous turnaround, will be playing a string of meaningless games in the second half of the season. And That May Not Be All ... Though it's probably a longshot if the Valderrama deal is completed, the Mutiny have also been talking blockbuster with the MetroStars, dangling striker Mamadou Diallo out there for the right price. The MetroStars have offered Adolfo Valencia as a starting point, but the Mutiny will clearly be going for the kill in this trade. According to a source, the Mutiny turned down a proposed deal of Valencia and Mark Chung for Diallo and Eric Quill and were waiting on the MetroStars to propose something with more meat on it. Or Maybe If the Rapids can't reach a trade agreement with the Mutiny, there's a chance Colorado could put together a deal with the MetroStars, who covet Balboa and Ross Paule. The Rapids are looking to stabilize their central midfield and would most likely be interested in Chung and Richie Williams. Stay tuned ... and keep coming back to the Boot Room in the next 24 hours.
