You say "Rumours," I say, "Fleetwood Mac, 1977."

Actually, you say "Rumors," as in, "We want more rumors." And I say, "Okay, I've got some rumors for you." But, keeping with an all-Fleetwood Mac theme, I'll also give you a few "Little Lies" and some "Second-hand News." See if you can tell what is what.

Mark a Rumor (something that is grounded at least a little bit in the truth) with an "R" a Lie with an "L" and Second-hand News with and "S".

Check your answers at the bottom of the page.

1. New England Revolution midfielder Rusty Pierce got into a little dust-up with teammate Andy Williams at practice yesterday and had to be pulled out of practice by members of Fernando Clavijo's coaching staff. According to eye witnesses, Pierce yelled at Williams as he was being dragged away, "Do it in a game and earn your paycheck, pretty boy."

2. MetroStars GM Nick Sakiewicz told people at the MLS All-Star game he is preparing to make Tampa an "offer they cannot refuse" to land Mamadou Diallo before the August 15 trade deadline. The deal is supposedly going to be Mark Chung, one other starting player and a first-round draft pick for the Senegalese striker.

3. Pictures of Chicago's proposed modular stadium were unveiled at the All-Star game, drawing oohs and aaahs from onlookers in the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel. Those who saw the pictures could not believe a supposedly "temporary" stadium could have, for one thing, a Euro-style roof over one grandstand and the look of a place that will instantly become the most photogenic stadium in MLS.

4. Brandi Chastain and Tisha Venturini were watching the MLS All-Star Game in a sportsbar when they witnessed Jim Rooney and Landon Donovan flashing sports bras. Chastain said of the display, "That's one less appearance I have to make."

5. Tim Leonard of the Bergen Record wrote a story on the MetroStars stadium project, leading with a line that stated the MetroStars "expect" to be playing in a new stadium in Harrison in 2003.

6. When he was GM of the Tampa Bay Mutiny, Sakiewicz released new MetroStars forward/midfielder Gilmar, saying "He is not physical enough to play in MLS." Sakiewicz' coach Tim Hankinson was also quoted as saying Gilmar was "lazy."

7. The reason I have been supporting the expansion project in Trenton is because, recently, I completed my "A" coaching license and have been privately told that I am the "leading candidate" to coach Union FC in 2003 should they get the bid.

8. Ante Razov will play for the Chicago Fire on Saturday afternoon in Colorado.

9. Colorado's Wes Hart, who was earlier this year declared "out for the season," with a torn achilles, will return to action on Saturday.

10. The Dallas Burn and their uniform supplier Athletica produced several "classic" badges, which they had hoped to use on their 2001 uniforms, but MLS got a look and blew the whistle, saying the club was "too well branded" to change.

Pub Talk

As you may have read, I travelled to San Jose last weekend for the All-Star game with a less-than-thrilled attitude about the festivities. So, after spending a beautiful weekend in the Bay Area, did my opinion of the whole shindig change? In a word, nope.

I'm sorry, it's just not for me -- but none of the All-Star games are. Perhaps the worst sporting event I've ever been assigned to cover was the NHL All-Star game at Madison Square Garden in, I believe, 1993. I mean, what's hockey without checking?

And what's soccer without defending? I'm not even talking about tackling, I'm just talking about trying to fill up the right spaces so a team cannot simply walk in on goal.

I'll tell you what it is ... it's a company picnic.

Landon Donovan was miked. You could hear him say after one of his goals, "This is too easy." He wasn't boasting. He was just stating the facts. It was too easy.

But hey, obviously, I'm not the target for this game...

A guy named Bruce Feldman, who writes mostly about college football for ESPN The Magazine, said to me, "It was the most exciting soccer game I've ever seen."

I have nothing else to say.
