ESPN.com, the leading sports site, has again generated record traffic, with a leading 11.743 million unique users in January, according to the latest Media Metrix figures. The number is a 100% increase from a year ago (5.86 million) and marks the fifth straight month of record traffic for the site. By comparison, AOL Sports generated 10.346 million unique users, while the NFL Internet Group had 8.706 million, and the SportsLine.com sites had 5.189 million.
ESPN.com also led the sports category in January with 1.703 million average daily unique visitors, 43.2 average minutes spent per user, and 507 million total usage minutes.
Also according to Media Metrix, ESPN.com led all sports sites during Super Bowl weekend, attracting 2.387 million unique users for the weekend. The site also led game day traffic with 1.733 million, compared to 1.439 million for the NFL Internet Group, 1.371 million for FoxSports.com, and 1.176 million for SuperBowl.com.
