CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The first reality that something is askew here was when you arrive at the National rental car desk at Miami International Airport and there are 40 employees from the Miami Herald getting cars because of a gas shortage. Once leaving National, with a half tank of gas because that's all the rental company can afford to give you, the aftereffects of Hurricane Wilma are around everywhere. Downed trees seem to equal those that are standing, with almost every other one damaged in some way. Some traffic lights work. Others don't, creating a game of chicken en route to the Convocation Center.
