Weekend coaching update
1. Steve Alford, fresh off being named coach at New Mexico, said Saturday on ESPN Radio's Gameday that he would give embattled Lobo J.R. Giddens a chance to stay on the team. Giddens had a rough junior season with the Lobos under former coach Ritchie McKay, getting suspended and battling injuries.
Giddens, a transfer from Kansas, played in 26 games for the Lobos, leading them in scoring at 15.8 points and pitching in 6.5 boards a game.
