Donovan extension impending
May, 10, 2007
Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said he expects to wrap up Billy Donovan's extension sometime soon. And no, he doesn't believe that Donovan is headed to Memphis, Orlando or any other NBA city for next season, not when he's negotiating with him and while he's recruiting feverishly down to the final few days of the spring signing period (see: Jai Lucas and Patrick Patterson). • The chances of former Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien getting a job improved dramatically with his reduction for his show cause penalty from five years down to two years. O'Brien's tenure lasts until May 8, 2009, which by the way doesn't make too much sense. The penalty of two years really should start from the conclusion of the case a year ago (he's been gone three years now) and allow O'Brien to be back without a penalty now (since nearly two seasons have passed since the case was ruled on). O'Brien would have been a viable candidate for the number of jobs that popped in the Northeast and should be again. The next thing the NCAA should do is wipe away the vacated tag on the 1999 Final Four. It was ridiculous that Ohio State didn't mention the '99 Final Four in the notes during the Final Four in Atlanta. It happened. Many of us were there and so was O'Brien and players like Michael Redd.
