Pan Am spots in high demand

Expect the competition for the final 12 spots on the Pan Am Games team to be some of the toughest and closest tryouts for a college-aged USA Basketball squad in recent memory.
That's because a record number of players are interested in trying out for the squad, coached by Villanova's Jay Wright (assisted by Mark Gottfried of Alabama and James Jones of Yale). Wright said Thursday he expects nearly 30 players to be invited to Haverford College, down the street from Villanova in suburban Philadelphia, July 12-14.
