Monty back to help Stanford

A few nuggets for the long weekend:

• A skeptic might think that Mike Montgomery's decision to be an assistant to the athletic director at Stanford could ultimately be a precursor to coming back to the bench at Stanford. But Montgomery has already done that job, was fed up with recruiting and has plenty of money from his Golden State Warriors contract to suddenly feel the urge to get back on the bench. More importantly, new Stanford coach Trent Johnson invited Montgomery to practices after Montgomery was bounced by the Warriors last year. Johnson has told me that he never felt threatened by Montgomery once he was fired by the Warriors. Actually, Johnson sought out Montgomery's advice. Remember, Johnson was a former Montgomery assistant. So, if anything, this will actually help Stanford to have a statesman like Monty in the house to help with any basketball-related issues.
