The bad news: In the romp against Central Connecticut State, Indiana lost sophomore Austin Etherington for the season with a fractured kneecap. Back to the good news -- Hanner Perea and Peter Jurkin return from NCAA suspension Saturday just in time for any potential depth issues.
2	Duke 9-0	-- Last Week: 2	388	A week off did little to slow the Blue Devils, as Duke decimated Temple in its lone game in seven days. Afterward, Mike Krzyzewski said redshirt freshman Marshall Plumlee might be back by Duke's Dec. 19 date with Cornell, which should boost its defensive rebounding.
3	Michigan 9-0	-- Last Week: 3	362	The Wolverines are off to their best start since they won a national title in 1988-89, sitting at 9-0. Things get interesting this weekend when John Beilein plays his old school West Virginia in New York.
4	Florida 7-0	1 Last Week: 5	345	The Gators all but humiliated their in-state rival, topping Florida State by 25 points. Things get interesting this week for Florida with a visit to Arizona.
5	Syracuse 8-0	1 Last Week: 4	332	With James Southerland making like Dion Waiters and starring as a sixth man (he's averaging 14.5 points per game, second on the team), the Orange keep rolling. Hard to imagine Syracuse will be tested much before a date with Temple on Dec. 22.
6	Louisville 8-1	-- Last Week: 6	323	Hard to say what is more Russdiculous: Russ Smith, who went for 31 against UMKC, or the Cardinals' defense, which is all but stifling opponents. Neither College of Charleston nor UMKC could hit 50 points. Let's see if Louisville can do the same to Memphis.
7	Ohio St 6-1	-- Last Week: 7	296	Nothing like two home games to cure what ails you. The Buckeyes rebounded nicely from their lone loss, at Duke, to easily beat Northern Kentucky and Long Beach State.
8	Kansas 7-1	1 Last Week: 9	294	Ben McLemore showed what makes him special, torching Colorado for 24 points in a lopsided win between former Big 12 foes. The Jayhawks stay at home this week.
9	Arizona 7-0	1 Last Week: 10	281	Mark Lyons led a comeback win against Clemson to help the Wildcats stay perfect. Now the big challenge -- a home date with Florida.
10	Cincinnati 9-0	1 Last Week: 11	227	The Bearcats rank fourth in the country in scoring and second in the nation in rebounding. Mix in 16.8 assists per game from their terrific backcourt and is it any wonder Cincinnati's undefeated?
11	Illinois 10-0	8 Last Week: 19	223	Brandon Paul had one of those nights, scoring 35 against Gonzaga in a signature win for John Groce in his first year in Champaign. The Illini are 10-0, and Paul is averaging 19.5 per game.
12	Missouri 8-1	-- Last Week: 12	191	Laurence Bowers has clearly felt few ill effects from the knee injury that sidelined him a season ago. He had 18 points and 10 boards in an easy win over Tennessee State and leads the Tigers in scoring while standing second in rebounding.
13	Gonzaga 9-1	5 Last Week: 8	172	The Bulldogs couldn't score, and Illinois couldn't miss. That combo added up to Gonzaga's first loss of the season, at home no less. Cold shooting -- 38 percent in the second half -- coupled with 11 3-pointers from the Illini eliminated an 11-point Zags lead.
14	Minnesota 10-1	1 Last Week: 13	165	Tubby Smith got win No. 500 and the Gophers extended their win streak to six games, beating USC with tenacious defense.
15	Georgetown 7-1	-- Last Week: 15	148	After beating Texas, John Thompson III insisted his team's 37-point outing in the previous game against Tennessee was an aberration. Then the Hoyas scored only 46 against Towson, a team with one win last season. The good news for Hoyas fans: Georgetown won. The bad news: People actually had to watch that.
16	San Diego St 7-1	2 Last Week: 14	145	The Aztecs continue to make a case for consideration as the best team in the West, rolling to their seventh consecutive win against future conference foe UC-Santa Barbara with ease. For those ready to anoint New Mexico as the Mountain West darling, San Diego State says not so fast.
17	Michigan St 8-2	1 Last Week: 16	143	Gary Harris shed the protective sleeve on his balky shoulder and proceeded to score 20 against Loyola. Forget the opponent. If Harris is getting back into form, that's good news for the Spartans.
18	Creighton 9-1	-- Last Week: 18	125	Doug McDermott -- who else? -- scored 30 and the Bluejays took care of a pesky Akron team with ease. Creighton next tangles with a good Cal team that gave UNLV all it could handle.
19	Notre Dame 8-1	2 Last Week: 17	120	Mike Brey got a good look at his bench against Brown -- thanks to a walkover win -- and liked what he saw. That's good news for the Irish going forward, especially against in-state rival Purdue on Saturday.
20	Pittsburgh 9-1	3 Last Week: 23	78	Tray Woodall and Talib Zanna are making a rather nice inside-outside pair for the Panthers. Thanks to the duo's steady play, Pitt is 9-1 and back in the national mix.
21	New Mexico 10-0	1 Last Week: 20	74	Valparaiso tried to force the tempo, but the Lobos forced turnovers -- 22 of them in all -- in the victory. That resulted in a perfect 10-0 mark for Steve Alford's team, which is quietly making noise out West.
22	UNLV 7-1	2 Last Week: 20	66	The Runnin' Rebels keep winning, but they aren't making it easy on themselves, or their fans. UNLV squeaked by a pesky Portland team and then needed last-second heroics from Quintrell Thomas to beat Cal. Worst of all, Mike Moser -- who didn't play against Portland because of a hip injury -- left the game against Cal with an elbow injury.
23	Kentucky 6-3	1 Last Week: 22	56	John Calipari instituted a 7 a.m. conditioning drill and lambasted his team after an easy win against Portland. Yep, it's not easy being a Wildcat right now, though Kentucky did bounce back after consecutive losses.
24	Wichita St 9-0	1 Last Week: 25	48	Even without two starters, the Shockers won easily against Northern Colorado and matched their best start in school history. The stakes get a little higher this week when Wichita State goes to Tennessee.
25	Oklahoma St 7-1	1 Last Week: NR	44	The Cowboys rebounded well after their first loss -- to Virginia Tech -- beating South Florida in a defensive slugfest and Missouri State with a timely sprint to start the game.
