Michigan or Kansas?

ESPN.com's voters have spoken, and it was a close call, but the Wolverines, with nine first-place votes, are No. 1 in this week's Power Rankings.

Kansas, riding a nation-best 17-game winning streak, received six votes for the top spot.

Florida (three first-place votes), Indiana and Syracuse round out the top five.

1	Michigan 19-1	-- Last Week: 1	440	The Wolverines haven't been No. 1 in the AP poll since the 1992-93 season, but wins over Purdue and at Illinois helped open the door to that possibility. The Wolverines' last -- and only -- loss of the season came Jan. 13, at then-No. 15 Ohio State.
2	Kansas 18-1	-- Last Week: 2	435	The Jayhawks pushed their nation-leading winning streak to 17 with victories over No. 11 Kansas State and Oklahoma last week. They've held 14 of their past 19 opponents to 60 or fewer points.
3	Florida 16-2	2 Last Week: 5	415	The Gators went on the road and had little trouble dispatching Georgia and Mississippi State, two sub-.500 SEC teams. Florida has won eight in a row, with games against South Carolina and No. 23 Ole Miss on deck.
4	Indiana 18-2	3 Last Week: 7	395	It was a strange week for Cody Zeller, who posted a career-low two points in a win against Penn State and scored only nine in a victory over Michigan State. Teammate Victor Oladipo made up for it, though, averaging 20 points in those two games.
5	Syracuse 18-2	2 Last Week: 3	361	The Orange became the second victim of Villanova's monster week when Wildcats guard James Bell buried consecutive 3s in overtime to send his team to its second win over a top-five club. The Orange's loss snapped an eight-game winning streak, including an early-week squeaker over No. 21 Cincinnati.
6	Duke 17-2	2 Last Week: 4	347	The Blue Devils' 27-point loss at Miami was the third-worst ever by a No. 1-ranked team. Freshmen Rasheed Sulaimon and Amile Jefferson helped them bounce back with a 20-point win over Maryland, but Duke is now 2-2 without senior Ryan Kelly (right foot injury).
7	Gonzaga 19-2	3 Last Week: 10	320	Seven-footer Kelly Olynyk was perfect -- 9-for-9 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line -- in the Zags' 20-point win over BYU. He also chipped in 13 points over the weekend in a win over San Francisco.
8	Arizona 17-2	-- Last Week: 8	307	After falling behind by 16 points early in their loss to UCLA, the Wildcats made sure that didn't happen again -- getting downright defensive in holding USC to 2-for-19 shooting early en route to a blowout bounce-back. Mark Lyons posted nine points in the win, his first single-digit outing this month.
9	Louisville 16-4	4 Last Week: 5	286	Coach Rick Pitino called Monday's matchup with Pittsburgh "a must game for us" after watching his previously top-ranked team fall to Syracuse, Villanova and Georgetown. Russ Smith, who is being asked to distribute the ball more and who came off the bench against the Hoyas, made only 6 of 22 shots in the past two losses.
10	Michigan St 17-4	1 Last Week: 11	275	The Spartans survived at Wisconsin by a bucket before losing by five at No. 7 Indiana. Things don't get any easier in the Big Ten. Five of MSU's next eight opponents are ranked, including a rematch with the Hoosiers on Feb. 19.
10	Butler 17-3	1 Last Week: 9	275	Welcome back, Rotnei Clarke. The Bulldogs shooting guard, who had missed two weeks with a sprained neck, helped his team bounce back from its one-point loss to La Salle with a 24-point, nine-assist return against Temple.
12	Oregon 18-2	5 Last Week: 17	253	The Ducks remained the lone undefeated team in the Pac 12 after beating Washington. They did so without freshman starting guard Dominic Artis, who is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
13	Miami (FL) 15-3	10 Last Week: 23	237	It was a fantastic week for the Hurricanes. Miami hammered No. 1 Duke by 27 points and topped Florida State on Sunday to remain the lone undefeated team in ACC play, and it also got big man Reggie Johnson back from a broken thumb sooner than expected.
14	Ohio St 15-4	2 Last Week: 16	219	Coach Thad Matta has been looking for more offensive help for Deshaun Thomas. The Buckeyes got help against Penn State, but it was in the form of sophomore forward Sam Thompson, who scored 16 points in a game in which Thomas scored his season-low (11).
15	NC State 16-4	3 Last Week: 18	188	Coach Mark Gottfried called Saturday's win against North Carolina -- which broke a 13-game losing streak to the Pack's in-state rival -- a step in the right direction. But to keep moving forward, State must avoid any more meltdowns, like the one it had at Wake Forest the game before.
16	Wichita St 19-2	4 Last Week: 20	177	Make that four straight, and 10 out of 11, for the Shockers, who top the MVC standings. Junior Cleanthony Early is averaging 15.2 ppg.
17	Ole Miss 17-2	5 Last Week: 22	127	It took a couple of clutch foul shots from Marshall Henderson, but Ole Miss -- 2-for-15 from the line before the junior came through -- pulled out its ninth straight victory, this time over Auburn. Next up: a Tuesday night date with Kentucky.
18	Creighton 18-3	3 Last Week: 15	110	After shooting a season-worst 5-for-21 from 3-point range in a loss to Drake, the Blue Jays were 12-for-20 from long range in a win over Southern Illinois. Doug McDermott led Creighton, as usual, with 21 points.
19	New Mexico 17-3	-- Last Week: 19	85	The Lobos managed only 34 points in their first MWC loss, to San Diego State. It marked UNM's lowest output since scoring 32 on Jan. 31, 1976, at Utah. Yikes.
20	Cincinnati 16-4	1 Last Week: 21	77	The Bearcats have had a week to ponder -- and grit their teeth a bit? -- how they let a seven-point lead over No. 3 Syracuse get away in the final six minutes on Monday. Next up: Rutgers on Wednesday.
21	Kansas St 15-4	7 Last Week: 14	67	After winning eight in a row, Kansas State finds itself with a losing streak for the first time this season after falling to No. 3 Kansas and Iowa State. After shooting only 35.1 percent against the Jayhawks, the Wildcats did get their shooting groove back against the Cyclones, connecting on 64 percent of their attempts in the second half.
22	Missouri 15-4	2 Last Week: 24	65	The Tigers didn't need injured senior Laurence Bowers to top South Carolina and Vanderbilt. But he dressed and warmed up with the team on Saturday, a good sign that we might see Mizzou's leading scorer back this week.
23	San Diego St 16-4	3 Last Week: NR	60	How do you push yourself back into the AP poll (and these power rankings)? How about holding No. 15 New Mexico to 11-for-44 shooting and 34 points? Coach Steve Fisher credited Jamaal Franklin for leading the defensive effort.
24	UCLA 16-5	1 Last Week: 25	48	The Bruins got a signature road win over No. 6 Arizona, but lost Travis Wear to a concussion. Playing without him two days later, UCLA couldn't back it up at Arizona State, shooting a season-low 34.7 percent.
25	Georgetown 14-4	NEW Last Week: NR	42	Who would have thunk it three weeks ago? After losing back-to-back games at Marquette and versus Pittsburgh, the Hoyas have now won four of their past five -- including victories at Notre Dame and against No. 5 Louisville last week. And they've done it without second-leading scorer Greg Whittington, out indefinitely because of academics.
