VCU lands commitment from in-state guard
6-foot-3 shooting guard Briante Weber confirmed to ESPN.com on Friday he has verbally committed to Virginia Commonwealth and head coach Shaka Smart.

"Yes sir, I committed today," he said.

Weber said he chose the Rams over Old Dominion, Virginia, Creighton and VMI.

It was mostly their (VCU's) style of play that made me commit to them," Weber said of his choice. "Plus it's not to far from home so my mom can come see me play.

Weber also cited his relationship with Smart as a factor, adding, "He's a good coach, down to earth person who likes to interact with his players off the court. I like that."

Weber will be spending a post-graduate year at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia next season, playing for legendary coach Fletcher Arritt. He joins guard Pierria Henry as 2011 recruits for the Rams.
