- DeAndre Daniels makes his choice
- Small forward DeAndre Daniels has made his college decision and will suit up for the Connecticut Huskies in the fall, according to a release on the IMG Academy website.
Daniels spent the past year at IMG in Bradenton, Fla. and was being recruited by Kansas, Texas, Duke and Kentucky, among others.
"Until now it's been all speculation," Daniels told ESPN.com. "It's over and I'm going to UConn."
"I think UConn surprised a lot of people with this pick up," ESPN's National Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi said. "And keep in mind it is just a verbal commitment until he enrolls, but what a terrific catch for the Huskies.
"UConn is getting a highly skilled small forward who can shoot it from 3, hit pull-ups in the mid-range and finish in transition. At his size he can score over most 3's in the paint."
Biancardi credited the extra year at IMG for helping Daniels' development.
"He was able to not only work on his skill development, but he really made it a priority to get in the weight room and add strength. He's put on 15-20 pounds of muscle which will pay immediate dividends at the next level and help him finish games."
Overall, Daniels should fit nicely in to a program that hopes to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament every year.
"If you look at the big wings the Huskies are bringing back next year in Jeremy Lamb and Roscoe Smith , and add DeAndre to the mix you can expect big things again for Jim Calhoun," Biancardi noted. "The versatility on the perimeter both offensively and defensively should really put pressure on opposing teams."
"Add the two jet-quick guards they have in Shabazz Napier and (incoming freshman) Ryan Boatright and you can see why the Huskies don't rebuild, they reload."
Sophomore small forward Jamal Coombs-McDaniel's decision to transfer most likely played a role in Daniels choice.

- DeAndre Daniels sets up Duke visit
- ESPN.com's highest rated uncommitted player in 2011 will make an official visit to Duke next weekend (April 15-16) for the Blue Devils season-ending banquet, ESPN's Dave Telep is reporting.
"He played as a post graduate player at IMG this year and Duke's interest has been swift," Telep said. "With him on campus soon, this one could be heading towards a resolution few saw coming two months ago. But, Duke seemingly has him surrounded."
Daniels is considering the Blue Devils along with Kansas, Kentucky, Texas and Florida.

- DeAndre Daniels still unsure of decision timetable
- ESPNU 100 forward DeAndre Daniels was reportedly set to announce his decision on Thursday but is still unsure of when that announcement will come.
Daniels told Matt Scott of www.TheShiver.com via text that he has not made a decision yet.
"I would let you know but honestly I don't even know," he said in response to when he will announce. "When I find out what I am going to do I will let you know."
Daniels is considering Kansas, Kentucky and Texas.

- According to Matt Scott at www.TheShiver.com, ESPNU 100 forward DeAndre Daniels will visit Kansas on Thursday for the Jayhawks game against UCLA on Thursday (Dec. 2).
Daniels is expected to stay on campus for the weekend. He is also considering the Bruins, along with Texas, where he was once committed, and Florida.

- ESPNU 100 small forward DeAndre Daniels has decided to re-open his recruitment and is no longer committed to Texas, his AAU coach Dinos Trigonis confirmed to ESPN.com on Monday.
Daniels had committed to the Longhorns in July of 2009 over Kentucky, UNLV and USC, among others. His recruitment is now "wide open", according to Trigonis.
The 6-foot-8 Daniels is also expected to enroll at a prep school this season as he has exhausted his eligibility in California. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and South Kent Prep (South Kent, Conn.) are the reported frontrunners.

- Longhorns land fourth 2011 prospect
- DeAndre Daniels, a 6-7 hybrid 4-man out of Woodland Hills, Calif./Taft, recently committed to Texas according to a source close to the situation. He was receiving interest from USC, Rhode Island, UNLV, and Washington.
ESPN.com Recruiting coordinator Joel Francisco has the story on Daniels' interesting recruitment.
"The big question on this commitment is when did the staff of Texas have the opportunity to see Daniels in action," Francisco wondered. "Daniels was ineligible during the 2008-09 season after transferring to Taft (and reclassifying) and college coaches were exempt from viewing kids during the spring evaluation period. In any case, Daniels does have some upside and is one of the more intriguing prospects out west in the class of 2011.
"Daniels has a wiry frame and his skills have improved in the past year. He handles the ball well in transition and he can knock down the 3-point shot. His stroke is smooth, but his release is slow."
Francisco says DeAndre will have to add strength in order to contribute right away at Texas.
"He'll need to get considerably stronger, especially on the defensive end, to bang in the Big 12 and continue to improve his skills both in the paint and out on the perimeter to make an immediate impact," he noted. "Due to his slight frame and lack of ideal lateral quickness he is a bit of a 'tweener on the defensive side of the ball at this stage.
"He'll have a chance to unveil his talents during July and during the 2009-10 regular season, but he should be listed under the class of 2010 despite his reclassification," Francisco believes. "Just like Jordan Hamilton this year, I'd be shocked if Daniels gets that 5th year and plays for Taft more than one season. In other words, prep school will likely be in his future plans after the 2009-10 season."
Should he stay in the Class of 2011, Daniels would join ESPNU Super 60 prospects Myck Kabongo and Sheldon McClellan, along with Julien Lewis in that Longhorn group.
