Texas to rest Jonathan Holmes
Texas forward Jonathan Holmes will continue to rest his injured right knee, leaving the No. 19 Longhorns without their leading scorer entering Tuesday night's key Big 12 matchup against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Holmes, who leads UT in scoring with 13.1 points per game and also averages 7.4 rebounds, injured the knee early in the Longhorns' loss to Kansas State on Saturday and had an MRI on Sunday.
Texas (18-5, 7-3) trails only Kansas (18-6, 9-2) in the Big 12 standings after seeing its seven-game win streak come to an end against the Wildcats. Sophomore Connor Lammert, Damarcus Croaker and Kendal Yancy could see more playing time Tuesday night because of Holmes' injury.
Oklahoma State (16-7, 4-6) will be without standout guard Marcus Smart, who will serve the first of a three-game suspension for shoving a Texas Tech fan at the end of Saturday's game.
