Jayhawks alumni game ends in tie
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- With the Jayhawks' football team having a bye this weekend, basketball took center stage at Kansas on Saturday thanks to the NBA lockout.
Boston Celtics guard Paul Pierce and 22 other former Jayhawks played in the first "Legends of the Phog" alumni game at Allen Fieldhouse.
Kansas fans got to see four decades of Jayhawks play in the game, which ended in a 111-111 tie a day after the NBA postponed training camps indefinitely and canceled 43 preseason games.
Pierce wouldn't comment on whether he was optimistic about the lockout being resolved in time to save the regular season.
"That's another conversation," he said. "I think we should focus on this moment."
The Celtics guard hit a 3-pointer to give his blue team a 111-108 lead with 5 seconds left, but Miami Heat guard Mario Chalmers responded with a 3 from the top of the arc with 0.1 remaining. Chalmers' white squad featured five members of Kansas 2008 national championship team.
