Cal's Richard Solomon ruled ineligible
BERKELEY, Calif. -- California forward Richard Solomon has been ruled academically ineligible for the remainder of the season, a major setback to a team expected to be a Pac-12 contender.
Cal coach Mike Montgomery announced Solomon's suspension Wednesday, saying "academics are a priority" and he hopes the sophomore forward will improve his grades and rejoin the team next season. Solomon also had been suspended for a Dec. 4 loss at San Diego State because of conduct contrary to athletic department values.
Solomon started eight of 13 games this season for the Golden Bears, averaging 6.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and anchoring the middle on defense.
Cal (15-4, 5-1) plays at Washington (11-6, 4-1) on Thursday and at Washington State (9-8, 1-4) on Saturday.
