Alabama coach Anthony Grant said Mitchell was suspended following Saturday's game. Grant said the decision was not the result of a specific action, but rather an accumulation of things.
The loss of Mitchell is a big blow to a team coming off back-to-back wins, climbing back to .500 in the SEC. Mitchell is the Tide's best perimeter scorer and a versatile defender. He is the team's second-leading scorer with 13.1 points per game. He trails only JaMychal Green for the team lead in rebounds. Mitchell is first in blocks with 31 and third on the team with 22 steals.
Grant said he is unsure who will take Mitchell's spot in the starting lineup against Auburn. Nick Jacobs started in Mitchell's place against Ole Miss.
