Southern Utah hires Nick Robinson
Nick Robinson, who spent the past three seasons as an assistant on Trent Johnson's staff at LSU, was named head coach at Southern Utah on Thursday.
Robinson will replace Roger Reid, who retired after leading the Thunderbirds to a 14-17 record this season in their final year in the Summit League. SUU moves to the Big Sky Conference next season.
Robinson, 32, played at Stanford and coached under Johnson at both Stanford and LSU, where he was director of basketball operations for two years before becoming an assistant coach last season.
"I cannot express my excitement for Nick," Johnson said in an LSU news release. "This is a great fit both for Nick and for Southern Utah. Having recruited him as a player at Stanford, it has been great to see his development both as a player and later as an assistant coach, and I believe he's going to do extraordinary things as a head coach."
