Hofstra suspends two players
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Taran Buie and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, who both sat out last season as transfers, have been suspended by Hofstra head basketball coach Mo Cassara for violating team rules.
The suspensions, for two preseason events and two regular-season games, were announced Wednesday.
Buie, who transferred after playing 11 games and averaging 5.4 points for Penn State, is a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard from Albany.
Coombs-McDaniel played two seasons at Connecticut and was a member of the 2011 national championship team. The 6-7 junior forward from Dorchester, Mass., averaged 4.5 points and 2.0 rebounds at Connecticut.
They will miss regular-season road games against Monmouth and Purdue.
