Stephen Rogers ends career

PROVO, Utah -- Recurring knee problems have ended the playing career of Brigham Young senior forward Stephen Rogers.

BYU coach Dave Rose announced it Wednesday.

The 6-foot-8 Rogers was part of a BYU team that won a school-record 32 games in 2010-11 and reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

He got off to a strong start last season, averaging 9.9 points and hitting 15 3s in the first 10 games before tearing the meniscus in his right knee.

He had surgery in December but was limited to eight games because of recurring knee soreness.

Rogers had another operation in April but continued to experience swelling.

Before transferring to BYU, Rogers averaged 21.3 points and hit 85 3-pointers in one season at Mesa Community College in Arizona.
