LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville's Kevin Ware, just days after returning to the court in an exhibition game, did not play in the season opener on Saturday and may have to wait another two weeks before making his regular-season debut.

"He's still limping a little bit," Cardinals coach Rick Pitino said following the team's 70-48 win against College of Charleston. "It's noticeable. When he gets over that, he's going to play. He's probably two weeks away from playing."

Ware was visibly disappointed not to play Saturday, but said he was glad Pitino did not put him in late in the game after No. 3 Louisville took command of what was a close contest early.

"I don't want to come back like that," Ware said. "I want to return in a game, not a rout."

Ware is less than eight months removed from the devastating broken right leg he suffered on March 31 against Duke, when he landed awkwardly in the NCAA tournament.

He was cleared for full-contact practice less than a week ago and logged 10 minutes in an exhibition contest against Pikeville on Wednesday night. He hit his first shot, a 3-pointer, and finished with six points and four rebounds.

The 6-foot-5 Ware averaged 4.5 points in 16.6 minutes per game last season before breaking his leg. The Cardinals went on to win the national championship.
