Daily Word: Can Texas Tech stop Kansas from earning a share of the Big 12 title?

Each weekday, our college hoops experts discuss the biggest issues, trends and themes in college basketball.

1. Can Texas Tech stand in the way of Kansas getting the win and earning at least a share of the Big 12 title?

Andy Katz: Can it? Yes. Will it? No. The game is at Allen Fieldhouse, and as well as Texas Tech is playing I don't see them winning in Lawrence.

Jeff Goodman: I'm going to try and waste as few words on this as possible: NO.

John Gasaway: I never say never, but I do say not likely. The Red Raiders are on the cusp of a really nice NCAA tournament seed, and that's their own great story. But Tech couldn't beat Kansas in Lubbock last month, and Tubby Smith's guys have actually been outscored to this point in Big 12 play. I'll take the Jayhawks.

2. What will be the deciding factor in North Carolina-Virginia?

Katz: Transition defense. If the Cavs can get back and prevent fast-break opportunities then they have a great shot at winning at home.

Goodman: Marcus Paige has had a ho-hum season, but I think North Carolina's senior guard will get going when it matters -- and as his career nears its close. If he does, it changes the Tar Heels going forward. Look for Paige to be the difference in this one.

Gasaway: I expect a rock fight. Outside of Louisville, these are the two best defenses in the ACC, and the game figures to be played at the Cavaliers' pace. Carolina can win a low-scoring game, but to do so it'll help if Brice Johnson, Isaiah Hicks and/or Kennedy Meeks get some offensive boards against the league's best defensive rebounding team.

3. Which team cannot afford a loss this weekend?

Katz: LSU. The only acceptable loss remaining for the Tigers is at Kentucky.

Goodman: Vanderbilt. The Commodores can all but punch their ticket with a victory against Kentucky.

Gasaway: Cincinnati. The Bearcats are hanging on by their fingernails to a spot in the bracket, and this weekend, they'll play at East Carolina. That might sound like an easy win, but a trip to Greenville can also mean a bad loss. The Pirates already won a home game against Temple this season.
