Stone must rock competition

Diamond Stone was a solid contributor for the Terps in their win Saturday over the Purdue Boilermakers. Maryland may end up being No. 1 when Monday's polls are released, and if it wants to continue to even higher heights, Stone will need to continue to be dependable. March difference makers

Villanova, Maryland have never been No. 1

The two schools lead the nation in NCAA tournament wins without ever reaching No. 1 in the AP poll. Will either take the top spot in Monday's poll?

Eamonn Brennan ESPN Staff Writer

Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said he "wasn't very good today" -- that he overcoached his team until about the six-minute mark in the second half, when he finally told the Terrapins' players to run two things (primarily the ball-screen stuff with Melo Trimble and Robert Carter) the rest of the game. In the meantime Turgeon remains pleased with his team's defense and its ability to hold on in tight, tough games, even as he waits for the offense to really open up. "Sometimes you're sitting over there and you've got 15 plays," Turgeon said. "Just keep it simple."
