Iowa keeps eyes up

Hawkeyes center Adam Woodbury should want to see this one. His game-winner sent Iowa to the Second Round. It was truly an eye-opening win. Best tourney photos

Can 2016 beat the buzzer-beater record?

Teams have beaten the clock three times in this year's NCAA tournament. That's enough heroics to tie the previous tourney record in just two rounds, with many more games left to go.

Worst bad beats of tourney's first weekend

As usual during the NCAA tournament, there were plenty of exciting finishes and bad beats. Rob Nelson recaps the worst of the bunch for bettors over the tourney's first weekend.

Villanova takes down Iowa with ease

No. 2 seed Villanova had a comfortable lead all game and beat 7-seed Iowa 87-68 behind four of the five starters' double-digit efforts. Villanova will face 3-seed Miami in the Sweet 16. Box score

Villanova hasn't scored in over three and a half minutes and Iowa is on a 13-2 run -- but the Wildcats' lead is still at 24. Iowa has been taking care of the ball better and Villanova's shots aren't falling, but this is still a wide margin. Iowa not going down without a second-half effort, though.

Worst tourney loss looming for Iowa

Iowa's worst NCAA tournament loss is 21 points, in 1955 to Colorado. It currently trails Villanova by 31. Follow live

Villanova holds commanding lead at half

No. 2 seed Villanova leads 7-seed Iowa 54-29 after one half. The Wildcats' 54 points are the most any team has scored in the first half in this year's tournament. Follow live

Villanova looking to put its second-round slip-ups in the rearview mirror. Wildcats up 25 at the half, and Iowa simply doesn't have an answer at either end. The Hawkeyes are struggling to get open looks in the half-court offense, and then struggling to contain Villanova's perimeter threats at the other end. Throw in 12 fast-break points/12 points off turnovers and this has turned into a potential blowout.

Villanova is putting on a clinic at both ends of the floor. Shooting 70 percent from 3-point range, but not relying totally on the outside shot. Wildcats have also forced Iowa into six turnovers -- turning that into eight points. Nova up 19 with 3:34 left in the first half.

Villanova didn't seem that all concerned yesterday with a specific player guarding Jarrod Uthoff -- and now we see why. The Wildcats are switching on screens and hand-offs, and at least four players have defended Uthoff so far. There was also a 1-3-1 zone on a couple possessions.
