Middle Tennessee comes down to earth

The Blue Raiders shot 55.9 percent from the field in Friday's shocking upset of Michigan State. In Sunday's loss to Syracuse, they shot an ice-cold 29.7 percent.

Dayton and Middle Tennessee certainly not the toughest of draws, but Syracuse has still been mighty impressive in St. Louis. Orange headed for two double-digit wins and a spot in the Sweet 16.


Syracuse pushes lead to 15 points

The Orange ripped off a 16-2 run as Middle Tennessee missed 10 of its last 11 shots. The Blue Raiders are trying to win multiple games in the same NCAA tournament for the first time. Follow live

Syracuse senior Michael Gbinije has taken over in the second half since Middle Tennessee grabbed a lead, scoring nine points as the Orange have jumped out to a 50-41 edge. Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee's offense has stagnated ever since point guard Jaqawn Raymond went out with his fourth foul around the 15 minute mark.


Syracuse's zone slowing Middle Tennessee

Middle Tennessee went 11-for-19 from 3-point range in its upset of Michigan State. The Blue Raiders are just 3-of-11 against the Orange and have turned it over seven times. Follow live

Reggie Upshaw Jr., one of the stars of Middle Tennessee's upset of Michigan State, is having a nightmarish follow-up. Upshaw is 0-for-5 from the field, 0-for-2 from the free-throw line and bobbled an alley oop for a sure two points.

The scorching shooting we saw from Middle Tennessee against Michigan State has yet to show up tonight. Blue Raiders are just 2-for-10 early on and have been bothered by Syracuse's length, as the Orange already have three blocked shots in less than six minutes of play.

Huge media crush in the Middle Tennessee locker room today as the No. 15 seed has become the story of the St. Louis pod. But the Blue Raiders are still shrugging at their newfound fame. "We celebrated yesterday," forward Darnell Harris said. "But we woke up today with a new mentality, a new goal. We're not satisfied. We want to keep playing."
