Being perfect is overrated anyways

And there you have it! The final two perfect brackets busted thanks to Maryland's win over South Dakota State. But for the majority of you, the bracket pain came early on -- 11 of the first 24 games of the tourney were won by the lower seed.

That's 17 straight points from Jake Layman and Jared Nickens. Despite their offensive outpouring, the Terrapins can't quite put their foot on SDSU's throat. Jackrabbits keeping it in the 10-15 point range, just enough to remain threatening.

Maryland should be dominating the paint against South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits' tallest player is 6-foot-9. The Terrapins have three players 6-foot-9 or taller in their starting five (six players 6-foot-9 or taller in total). Instead, Maryland has outrebounded the Jackrabbits by just 4.

First Round: SDSU (12) vs. Maryland (5)

The Terps stumbled down the stretch (3-5 in their final eight Big Ten games), but would seem to have a decided edge over the Jackrabbits. Preview

South Dakota State can make history

Last year, No. 12 seeds were swept by No. 5 seeds for the first time since 2007. Thursday, the tables turned. If the Jackrabbits can get the win Friday, it would give 12s three wins in this year's tourney, tying the NCAA tournament record.

Can South Dakota St. upset Maryland?

The No. 12 Jackrabbits have just a 6.1 percent chance of beating No. 5 Maryland. Their best shot may be to expose the Terps' woeful turnover differential. But South Dakota State's conservative defense isn't suited to the task. Giant Killers (Insider)
