Hoops Power Rankings: Cavaliers No. 12
Virginia was stunned on the road by George Washington. The stingy Cavaliers defense allowed GW to shoot 45.1 percent and go to the line 28 times. It's no wonder they kissed their top 10 spot goodbye. Top 25

Georgetown and Wisconsin each opened the season with puzzling losses. Duke's freshmen struggled on the big stage, and VCU has a first-year coach. This season's 2K Classic should provide clarity.

The first men's game of the marathon -- GW's 73-68 home upset of No. 6 Virginia -- certainly kicked things off in appropriately blood-pumping fashion, eh? The (underrated) Smith Center was jumping and the Colonials were impressively sharp on both ends of the floor. It's still early, of course, so no UVa freak-outs needed here. Still, arguably the biggest area of preseason concern for the 2015-16 Cavaliers -- perimeter shooting -- proved a problem. The Cavaliers shot just 5-of-20 from 3, including a raft of hurried misses that could have turned the game around in the closing minutes. Instead, a court-storm, and another early-season upset in the books.
