The appetite for the next reality TV show seems to keep growing. So each top-25 college basketball team must have a candidate for that future show's star. Who's yours?
The Gaels return everyone from last season's 29-win roster. And with few available scholarships, Randy Bennett has a short list of targets.
Freshmen can change the shape of nearly every top-25 college basketball roster, and next season's group is no different. Each top-25 team has a new player to get familiar with.
Another happy season for Gaels?
Saint Mary's returns the starting lineup from a team that won 29 games, the West Coast Conference and swept Gonzaga. Things are looking up for Dane Pineau and his teammates. Revised Way-Too-Early Top 25
Several power programs will be impacted by NBA draft decisions, but mid-major teams' outlooks are easiest to peg. Which squads will be the strongest in 2016-17?
Where was the little guy?
Monmouth and Saint Mary's were no little fish. They were two squads that did enough to make the Big Dance, according to Dickie V. Why were they left out? Vitale's Sweet 16 moments
2017 Bracketology: No. 8 Seeds
- East: VCU Rams
- West: Texas Longhorns
- South: Dayton Flyers
- Midwest: Saint Mary's Gaels
Gaels have pieces to be great in 2016-17
No one expected much from Saint Mary's last season. But the Gaels posted top-five shooting marks from both sides of the arc, swept Gonzaga in the regular season for the first time in 20 years, and finished 29-6 overall. And with all five starters returning, expectations should be a little different next season. Way-Too-Early Top 25
Alec Peters scored 20 points for his seventh straight 20-plus game and Valparaiso advanced to its first NIT semifinals with a 60-44 victory against Saint Mary's on Tuesday night.
Valparaiso moves on to NIT semifinals
The top-seeded Crusaders held the Gaels to just 13 second-half points in a 60-44 victory. Alec Peters scored 20 to help Valpo reach a school-record 29 wins on the season. Box score

Emmett Naar had 15 points and 11 assists, Dane Pineau added 12 points and 11 rebounds and Saint Mary's beat Georgia 77-65 on Sunday night in the NIT second round.
The best mid-majors belong in Dance
The NCAA tournament is all about Cinderella stories, but the best contestants from smaller conferences often can't make it to the Big Dance. Ten leagues saw their best teams go down in this year's conference tournaments. The Cinderella Sham (Insider)
Joe Rahon scored 14 points and hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds left to help Saint Mary's advance to the NIT second round with a 58-56 victory over New Mexico State Tuesday night.
Were Saint Mary's, Valparaiso snubbed?
If the NCAA tournament field were determined using the Basketball Power Index (BPI), Saint Mary's (31st) and Valparaiso (42nd) would be dancing just like No. 10 seed Syracuse (39th) is.
Notable NCAA tournament snubs
Saint Mary's missed the 68-team field, despite a BPI ranking of No. 31. The Gaels, as well as Monmouth and San Diego State, all lost in conference tournament finals.
The National Invitation Tournament has placed Monmouth, St. Bonaventure, South Carolina and Valparaiso atop the field as the No. 1 seeds.
Most deserving teams without a bid
South Carolina and Saint Mary's own the highest strength of records among this season's NCAA tournament snubs.
Who most deserved to get in? Who least deserved their spot?
Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer
Not a banner night for non-power schools: St. Bonaventure, St. Mary's, San Diego State, Monmouth and Valparaiso all left out of the field.
Saint Mary's tournament profile
Saint Mary's is among Joe Lunardi's "last four in." The Gaels are a respectable 2-2 vs. the BPI top 50, but their lack of games against quality opponents may hurt them.
