Beard to Texas Tech from UNLV: UNLV Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy statement regarding Chris Beard "Coach Beard has informed me he intends to pursue the men's basketball head coaching job at Texas Tech. This unprecedented move is extremely disappointing to the President and I, for our program and to our fans. Our search process allowed us to develop a deep pool of qualified candidates, from which we will select a great coach who really wants to be here and who will honor his commitments in leading the Runnin' Rebels."

Give Texas Tech credit. For much of the game a defense that ranked last in the league in Big 12 play kept a lid on a very good Butler offense. But over the last 10 minutes the Bulldogs pulled away. Kellen Dunham's five made 3s (on nine attempts) powered Butler back to the round of 32 for a second consecutive year.

Down as much as 8 in the first half, the Bulldogs closed out Texas Tech on a 9-2 run. Butler will face the winner of UVA-Hampton in the round of 32. Box score

Texas Tech has to keep this game within two possessions. Tech isn't built for big comebacks because its offense isn't based on taking quick shots. Pretty sure I've heard the shot clock buzzer expire more on Red Raiders' possessions than any other team this season.
