Going down for the loose ball

You've got to leave it all on the floor in the tourney and Wichita State's Markis McDuffie does just that. But not to be outdone, Arizona's Kadeem Allen stakes his claim at the loose ball during the First Round matchup. Best tourney photos

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

The focus coming into this game was on Wichita State, but Jim Larranaga and Miami had other ideas. Riding a combined 14-of-22 shooting performance from Angel Rodriguez and Sheldon McClellan, the Hurricanes overcame a 16-turnover performance and ended the college playing days of Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker.

Miami overcomes feisty Wichita State

Miami was outrebounded, lost the turnover battle and blew a 21-point lead, but the Canes got key buckets when they needed them most to advance to the Sweet 16, 65-57. Box score

Jeff Goodman ESPN Insider

Gregg Marshall has done a great job last few years -- with core of VanVleet and Baker. Will be interesting to see where Wichita State goes from here though. Those guys were backbone for their success. Other question is whether Marshall goes elsewhere -- although not a ton of quality options this year.

Jim Larranaga is quite literally biting his tongue. Went to scream, and instead grimaced and turned around.

From down 21 to down 5. From 13 turnovers 10 minutes in to zero since. Three games. Five days. One flight. Shockers is right nickname. Wow

Andy Katz ESPN Senior Writer

Well now. Wichita State is here now in all its past glory that got the Shockers to this point. Defense rules in Wichita. Game on.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Could see the oh no look in VanVleet's eyes when that pass slipped through his fingers. That was a potentially big possession for Shockers.

Shockers head into break with work to do

Wichita State ranks third nationally in FG pct defense (38.3). but Miami made 60 percent of its shots in a near-perfect first half. The Hurricanes lead, 32-19. Angel Rodriguez has 16 points. Follow live

A game after holding Arizona to 19 points in first half Wichita State has 19 itself but it feels slightly more threatening, considering monstrous hole the Shockers dug selves out of .

11-0 run gets Wichita State back in it

This Shockers team is tournament-tested and is showing some moxie after falling behind by 21. Miami now has 8 turnovers to almost match Wichita State's total. Follow live

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Wichita State has scored 11 unanswered. Remember the Shockers are on third game in six days, with a flight from Dayton to Providence in between. Gotta have dead legs, but not disappearing.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

Shockers are a mess. A team that averages just 10 turnovers per game already has 9. Rushing shots, careless passes, can't defend. Wheels flying off early.
