Allen's threes too much for Georgetown

Duke's Grayson Allen went 5-of-6 from behind the arc, finishing with 32 points. The Blue Devils needed every one of Allen's threes as they closed out an 86-84 win over Georgetown.

A great first half at Madison Square Garden ended in peak fashion, as Kaleb Johnson buried a running 3 from near half court just before the buzzer expired. That lunge gave the Hoyas a well-earned 47-42 halftime lead. Led by star sophomore Isaac Copeland, who had 15 points on 5-of-7 from the field, Georgetown shot 57.1 percent in the first half overall, getting open 3s and high-percentage interior looks in nearly equal measure. (Copeland also had one of the best near-highlights of the season thus far, when he rose extremely high for a two-handed putback slam just before Duke's Grayson Allen disrupted the majesty with a foul.) Speaking of Allen, he maintained the 30-point pace he hit Friday night with 16 efficient first-half points. Allen his teammates are getting where they want to offensively, but they also allowed 1.4-ish points per trip on the other end. Not that we're complaining.

Watch: (5) Duke-Georgetown in 2K Classic

MSG plays host to a battle of perennial hoops powers. Grayson Allen scored a career-high 30 in Duke's win over VCU on Friday, while Georgetown knocked off Wisconsin for its first win of the season. Live on ESPN, WatchESPN

A late-arriving Sunday afternoon crowd was still filtering in to Madison Square Garden as an emphatic national anthem from a former contestant on "The Voice" helped wake everybody up. Time to run back another 2K Classic doubleheader. Duke and Georgetown, winners Friday night, will tip the championship game momentarily; Wisconsin and VCU will play the consolation at 3:30 ET. The latter is a potentially interesting stylistic matchup, but really, all eyes are on the Blue Devils and Hoyas. Grayson Allen's 30 points helped lift Duke Friday night, but Mike Krzyzewski's strategic shift in the second half -- when he went small with Matt Jones and Luke Kennard at the three and four, with Amile Jefferson at center -- was the coaching move of the tournament thus far. It'll be fascinating to see what Duke does against a much bigger, more physical Hoyas team today.

Weekend Homework: 2K Classic should bring answers

Georgetown and Wisconsin each opened the season with puzzling losses. Duke's freshmen struggled on the big stage, and VCU has a first-year coach. This season's 2K Classic should provide clarity.
