INDIANAPOLIS -- Manute Bol's hockey career apparently is over. The 7-foot-7 former NBA player signed with the Indianapolis Ice of the Central Hockey League last week but left town Sunday for Hartford, Conn., where he lives with his family. Ice public relations director Jason Burkman said Monday that Bol probably will not return to Indianapolis to play hockey. Bol spent part of Saturday's game against Amarillo on the bench before his arthritic feet began swelling inside his custom-made ice skates. He was out of uniform and signing autographs after the first period, trying to raise money for the people of his war-torn homeland of Sudan. "We haven't gotten the total tallies on that because we had a lot of auctions going on for a lot of his equipment,'' Burkman said. "But you never know. Down the line we could bring him in again for something.'' Bol signed a standard CHL contract and was paid for the one game, but Burkman would not say how much Bol received. "In this league, he can sign a contract and be cut at any time. It's just that they don't owe him any money once they cut him,'' Burkman said. The game drew a season-high crowd of 5,859 to Conseco Fieldhouse.
