ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Ken Hill pitched two-hit ball for six innings and Darin Erstad was 3-for-5 with an RBI as the Anaheim Angels beat the Boston Red Sox 7-5 on Saturday night.

The Angels won their third straight following two season-opening losses to the New York Yankees. The Red Sox have lost four straight to drop to 1-4, the first time they've been three games under .500 since they ended 1997 at 78-84.

Hill (1-1) allowed two singles and a run. He walked four and struck out three in earning his first victory since Aug. 4.

Erstad, hitting .508 (14-for-24), singled to spark a two-run first and had an RBI double in the sixth.

Anaheim broke open a tight game in the sixth, chasing starter Brian Rose (0-1) during a four-run inning that made it 6-1.

Troy Glaus doubled in a run, Scott Spiezio followed with his first homer, and Erstad drove in another run with his double against Bryce Florie.

Boston scored two runs in the seventh. Shigetoshi Hasegawa allowed an RBI single to Jeff Frye and walked Jose Offerman with the bases loaded, but got Trot Nixon to bounce into an inning-ending double play.

The Red Sox made it 6-5 in the eighth off Rheal Cormier. Carl Everett doubled in a run and scored on Jason Varitek's single. The Angles added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on Bengie Molinas' RBI single.

Troy Percival pitched the ninth for his first save.

The Angels took a 2-0 lead in the first, which began with Erstad's single and a walk to Kennedy. Mo Vaughn's single scored Erstad, and Kennedy scored when Garret Anderson bounced into a force, barely beating the relay to first to avoid an inning-ending double play.

Offerman scored from second base on Nixon's infield single in the sixth to trim Anaheim's lead to 2-1. Nixon's smash into the second base hole was smothered by Adam Kennedy as Offerman, who had walked and gone to second on a wild pitch, never slowed rounding third and scored without a play.

Rose, Boston's most effective starter during the exhibition season with a 3.26 ERA in six starts, allowed nine hits and five runs in 5 1-3 innings.

Notes: With back-to-back wins over Boston, the Angels have already doubled their 1999 victory total against the Red Sox, who took nine of 10 games between the teams. ... Hill has a career record of 49-24 in April and May. He is 64-76 the rest of the time. ... Florie made a quick departure with two outs in the seventh, when he appeared to strain a groin muscle while pitching to Anderson.
