Milwaukee 6, Atlanta 3

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Geoff Jenkins homered to cap a three-run eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat Atlanta 6-3 Saturday, the Braves' fourth loss in five games.

Quilvio Veras hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth that tied it at 3.

But Mark Loretta, who had homered earlier, opened the Brewers' half with a double off reliever John Burkett (0-2). Jeromy Burnitz then hit a grounder under the glove of first baseman Andres Galarraga, with Loretta scoring on the error.

Jenkins followed with his third home run.

Brewers starter Jimmy Haynes allowed only an unearned run and three hits through seven innings. Wally Joyner began the eighth with a pinch-hit single and Veras homered.

After Andruw Jones walked, David Weathers (1-0) relieved. Keith Lockhart sacrificed and walks to Galarraga and Bobby Bonilla loaded the bases, but Weathers escaped when Javy Lopez bounced into a double play.

Bob Wickman pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.

The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the first. Marquis Grissom and Loretta opened with successive singles, Burnitz hit an RBI single and Jenkins drove in a run with a groundout.

Atlanta answered with an unearned run in the second. Galarraga led off with a single and moved to third on Lopez's one-out double.

Reggie Sanders bounced to third and Galarraga appeared an easy out at home, but the throw from Jose Hernandez sailed well over the head of catcher Raul Casanova.

Loretta's first home run, a two-out solo shot to left in the fifth, made it 3-1.

Notes: Jenkins' wind-blown infield single in the third inning extended his hitting streak to seven games, matching his career high. ... RHP Everett Stull is scheduled to make his first major league start Sunday against Atlanta, the team that released him in March. ... Chipper Jones, who did not start because of sore right elbow, pinch-ran in the eighth inning.
