TORONTO (AP) _ Lance Painter, a reliever making his first start of the season, allowed just two hits in five innings as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles for the 13th straight time, 7-2 Wednesday night.

The Blue Jays swept the three-game series and have won 14 straight games at home against the Orioles, who lost for the seventh time in eight games overall.

Painter (1-0) struck out a career-high eight and allowed just one run. The left-hander replaced Roy Halladay, who is working out his problems in the bullpen, in the Toronto rotation.

Tony Batista homered for the Blue Jays, who have 53 in 21 home games.

Baltimore starter Scott Erickson, named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" of the year in its May 8 issue, pitched ugly against Toronto, allowing seven runs on 12 hits in 2 2-3 innings.

After Batista homered in the second inning, Toronto scored six runs off Erickson (0-1) in the third.

Raul Mondesi, Carlos Delgado and Brad Fullmer hit consecutive singles for one run. After Batista walked, Marty Cordova hit a two-run single, and after Jose Cruz Jr. added an RBI single, Homer Bush's two-run double made it 7-1.

Bush's double would have been a single, but second baseman Delino DeShields failed to cover second base on the throw back into the infield. Ryan Minor replaced DeShields as a pinch-hitter in the sixth.

Paul Quantrill pitched 3 2-3 innings for his first save.

Erickson was making his second appearance since coming off the disabled list, and he has allowed 12 runs and 20 hits in 8 2-3 innings. He had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips in his right elbow on March 3.

Albert Belle homered in the second inning, his fourth of the season.

Notes: Painter made four starts for St. Louis last season. ... Cal Ripken was a designated hitter for the second straight game. On Tuesday, Ripken was a DH for the first time in his career. Manager Mike Hargrove wants to keep Ripken off artificial turf. Ripken went 1-for-4. ... The Blue Jays are averaging more than seven runs a game. ... Halladay is 2-4 with a 11.53 ERA.
