KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Jeff Reboulet drove in four runs,
including a game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning, to lead the
Kansas City Royals to a 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on
Friday night. Reboulet hit a three-run double in the fourth, and Mike Sweeney
added four hits, including his 13th homer, as Kansas City returned
home from a nine-game road trip with a win. The Royals, who have an AL-beat 18-7 record at home, just
completed their first winning road trip of the season, going 5-4 in
Boston, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. They kept it up at home, despite blowing a 5-4 lead in the
ninth. Brian Giles' second homer tied the game off Jerry Spradlin
(2-0), who blew his third save in nine chances. The Royals have
allowed a major league-leading 103 home runs. Rey Sanchez doubled off Jason Christiansen (1-5) to lead off the
10th inning, and went to third on Johnny Damon's sacrifice bunt. Reboulet followed with an opposite field line-drive single to
give the Royals their 14th win in their last at-bat, including nine
"walk-off" wins. Giles hit a leadoff homer in the seventh off Jeff Suppan to cut
Kansas City's lead to 5-3. It was the 19th home run allowed by
Suppan, most in the AL. Suppan allowed three runs and six hits in
seven innings. Sweeney hit a solo homer in the first inning off Jason Schmidt
to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. After the Pirates tied it in the third on Warren Morris' RBI
double, the Royals scored four unearned runs in the fourth, with
help from an error by first baseman Kevin Young. Reboulet drove in three with a bases-loaded double and Sweeney
followed with an RBI single. Young, a native of Kansas City, Kan., hit his 100th career homer
leading off the fifth inning. Notes: Sweeney has five four-hit games this season. ... Kansas
City's Dave McCarty extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a
single in the fifth. Joe Randa had his 10-game hitting streak
snapped. ... The Pirates have at least one extra-base hit in all 58
games this season. ... The Pirates turned a double play in the
third inning, extending their league lead to 67, including 14 in
the last 11 games. ... The Royals began a stretch of 18 of their
next 24 games at home. They just finished a stretch of 21 out of 27
games on the road. They were 14-13 over that stretch. ... Kansas
City GM Herk Robinson said no decision has been made regarding
surgery for LHP Jose Rosado, who has been on the DL since May 1
with tendinitis in his left shoulder. ... Kansas City is 12-6 in
one-run games.
