TORONTO (AP) -- After rookie Mike Lamb misplayed a potential
double-play grounder in the first inning, Dave Martinez hit a
three-run homer.
Lamb rebounded to tie Rangers record with three doubles as Texas
beat the Toronto Blue Jays 11-6 Sunday to stop a three-game losing
streak.
"You just have to keep your defense seperate from your
offense," said Lamb, who has 21 errors this season.
The 24 year-old third baseman went 3-for-3 with three runs
scored and two walks. He also had three doubles May 18 against
Baltimore and is hitting .300 with 22 doubles and 33 RBI.
"I know he's been struggling with errors this year, but he's a
great hitter," Texas starter Ryan Glynn said. "He didn't get
discouraged. Mike never does. He's strong mentally."
Glynn (3-1) allowed Martinez's three-run homer, then held
Toronto to five more hits until the eighth, when the Blue Jays
loaded the bases with two outs. Mike Venafro then retired Carlos
Delgado on an inning-ending grounder.
Glynn wound up allowing four runs -- three earned -- and seven
hits in 6 2/3 innings.
"That was really big on his part for him not to let my error,
and the homer, affect the rest of his game," Lamb said. "He threw
a great game today, and he deserved to get the win."
Delgado tied teammate Tony Batista for the AL lead in homers
when he connected in the sixth for his 33rd, then hit a two-run
double in the ninth off Tim Crabtree.
Kelvim Escobar (7-12), unable to hold the early lead, lost his
third straight start, allowing six runs and seven hits in six
innings. Only Joe Mays of Minnesota (13) has more losses among AL
pitchers.
"I was on track for the first few innings. I threw everything
for strikes, then I started to try too hard," Escobar said. "I
was trying to be too fine with my pitches."
Texas, which had 16 hits, tied the game in the fourth on Ricky
Ledee's RBI single and Scott Sheldon's two-run double, then went
ahead 5-1 in the fifth on Rusty Greer's RBI single and Rafael
Palmerio's run-scoring double.
Rangers rookie B.J. Waszgis had a sacrifice fly in the sixth,
but Delgado homered in the bottom half.
Gabe Kapler's RBI single made it 7-4 in the seventh, and the
Rangers added a pair of runs in the eighth on Delgado's run-scoring
error at first and an RBI single by Kapler, who went 2-for-5 with
two RBIs and extended his hitting streak to 20 games.
Game notes
The Blue Jays, in need of help at second base, acquired
Mickey Morandini from the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be
named. Homer Bush, Toronto's starting second baseman, is out until
at least late September with a broken bone his left hand.
Morandini, 34, hit .252 with 13 doubles and 22 RBI in 91 games
with the Phillies. ... Waszgis singled in the eighth for his first
major-league hit. ... Shannon Stewart was 3-for-5.
