RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Sean Casey is seeing success on the road – and so, it seems, are the rest of the Cincinnati Reds.

Jim Brower
Reds pitcher Jim Brower is congratulated after scoring from third base on a single by Michael Tucker.

Casey drove in three runs and upped his batting average on the road to .486 as the Reds won their fifth straight away from home with a 9-5 victory over the Giants on Tuesday night.

"There's really no explanation for it. It's just the beginning of the year," Casey said about his hitting on the road. "The last couple of homestands I haven't been hitting well. In fact, I've been stinking it up at home, but that will change."

Casey is batting just .143 at Cinergy Field.

Casey went 3-for-4 against the Giants, while Jim Brower (2-0) got the win and hit the go-ahead run. Aaron Boone was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

"One guy gets going, seems like we all get going," Casey said.

San Francisco failed to sell out Pacific Bell Park for the first time in 91 games since the stadium opened last year, drawing 40,723, 336 short of capacity.

After the end of Cleveland's streak at 455 on April 4, the Giants had the longest active streak of consecutive sellouts.

Cincinnati, which won its fifth straight road game, set a National League record by not getting shut out for the 182nd consecutive game, one more than Philadelphia from 1893-95. The 1931-33 New York Yankees set the major league record at 308.

Brower's double in the fourth inning scored Jason LaRue for a 4-3 lead.

Michael Tucker added an RBI single and Casey hit a two-run double in a four-run fourth off Livan Hernandez (1-3).

Hernandez, 0-3 in his last four starts, gave up seven runs and 11 hits in four innings.

Brower gave up five runs and six hits in six innings.

Barry Bonds had tied it at 3 in the third inning with a two-run home run, his 503rd, moving him within one of Eddie Murray, 16th on the career list.

"I thought we had a chance when we came back to 3-3, but they jumped on us for four in the next inning," Giants manager Dusty Baker said. "It's hard to keep coming back like that."

Cincinnati went ahead in the first on Dmitri Young's RBI grounder and Boone's run-scoring single.

Ramon Martinez hit a sacrifice fly in the second, but Boone made it 3-1 in the third with a two-out RBI triple.

Casey's sacrifice fly in the sixth gave the Reds an 8-3 lead, but Russ Davis hit a two-run homer off Brower in the bottom half.

LaRue added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

The Giants gave first baseman J.T. Snow the night off, moving Jeff Kent to first and giving Martinez a start at second. Snow was the last Giants' starter to get a game off this season.

But his rest was short-lived.

Kent was ejected by first base umpire Tim Timmons in the sixth when Barry Larkin reached on reliever Chad Zerbe's error. Timmons ruled Zerbe's foot wasn't on the base when he grabbed the short throw from Kent.

Snow replaced Kent at first.

"Some of these umpires we deal with are young, inexperienced and need some seasoning under their belt," Kent said. "And I dealt with one today."

Game notes
Larkin needs 20 hits to tie Johnny Bench for third on the Reds' career list at 2,048. ... Giants manager Dusty Baker underwent minor carpal tunnel surgery on his right hand Monday. Baker won't be able to write for up to 10 days, and he needs to keep his hand elevated. "I didn't know anything was wrong until I couldn't open a jar of pickles with my right hand," he said. ... Kent, last season's NL MVP, needs two home runs to reach 200. .... Kent was the first Giant ejected from a game this season.
