Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton confirmed Wednesday that he was chosen to compete in the Home Run Derby during All-Star Game weekend festivities in Kansas City July 9, according to reports.
The Marlins' 22-year-old outfielder told the Miami Herald, "We're in there," prior to Wednesday's 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
If named, Stanton would be the fifth Marlin to compete in the Derby. Robinson Cano and Matt Kemp were named Derby captains earlier this month.
"I love his chances," Marlins coach Joe Espada told the Miami Herald. "This guy has the best chance to win the Home Run Derby because he can mis-hit the ball and it's going to go over the fence."
