Charlie Morton gets 3-year extension

Right-hander Charlie Morton has reached an agreement on a three-year, $21 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Morton passed a physical Wednesday. The guaranteed contract will pay him $4 million in 2014, and his salary will increase to $8 million in 2015 and 2016.

The Pirates also reached a deal with right-handed pitcher Edinson Volquez on a one-year contract for $5 million. The 30-year-old Volquez went 9-12 with a 5.71 ERA in 2013 while splitting ...
